Olytico Internship: A Reflection by Taylor O’Neil
by Taylor O'Neil on 12/12/18
Taylor O’Neil is a Junior at Lasell College . She is currently studying abroad at Griffith College and interning with Olytico through the CAPA study abroad programme. Taylor heads back to America on December 15th, 2018.
Studying abroad was a must do for me while I attended Lasell College. Out of all the study abroad locations offered, I knew Ireland would be the place I’d end up studying in. Once my mind was set on Ireland, I then had to find a program that had a location there. During my search, I came across the CAPA Dublin program. The CAPA Dublin program had offered the opportunity for me to study abroad at Griffith College while interning in Dublin for 20 hours a week.
I received an email from CAPA one day that mentioned an interview between me and a possible internship location. This internship was at Olytico, a social media analytics company. I then received an email from Patricia and we agreed upon a time for us to have a phone interview. Following the phone interview with Patricia and Lorcan, I received a email that said I got the internship at Olytico.
When I first arrived in Dublin, I was lucky enough to arrive early and get used to my new home before jumping right into the swing of things. My parents came over with me and we were able to explore Northern Ireland while they were here. Then, in a blink of an eye, they left and it was time for me to start classes and my internship.
During my time in Dublin, I’ve taken three classes at Griffith while interning at Olytico during the week. I was lucky enough to be able to intern during the days and take my classes at night. Then, on the weekends, I spent my time travelling all over Europe. My friends and I were able to travel around Ireland, travel to Amsterdam, London, and many more locations. A highlight of my travels was visiting the place I wanted to visit the most, the Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio.
When I wasn’t travelling, my favorite time while abroad was spent at Olytico. From the start of me accidentally showing up at the office on the wrong day to all the responsibilities I’ve been given, I was privileged to be a part of this amazing team.
While at Olytico, I’ve had the privilege to learn so much about the social media industry from my coworkers. From weekly blog posts and analyzing trends to social media listening for Stephen’s talks, I’ve appreciated all the exposure and experiences I’ve received since interning here. But, one of the things I’ve come to appreciate the most about Olytico is the ability they have to make you feel like you are a part of the team. Even walking up all the stairs going up to the office wouldn’t deter me from wanting to see my coworkers and having a good day at Olytico.
The time I spent in Dublin and at Olytico will be an experience that I will cherish forever and never forget. Words don’t even begin to describe how much I’ve appreciated the opportunity I’ve had to intern at Olytico and work with some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Not only did I receive a chance to learn while in Ireland, but I was able to apply what I’ve learned so far while being at Olytico. Without a doubt I’ll miss all the office banter and listening to what everyone has to say. Although, I do look forward to bringing some of the Irish humor I’ve learned while here back to the States. Thank you Patricia, Shona, Gary, Lorcan and Stephen for all the amazing experiences I’ve had at Olytico, I’ll miss all of you greatly.
