Wednesday morning, we went down to Dublin Simon Community’s storage facility to try on a couple of vintage pieces, drink a cup of tea and of course do some charity work. Our time volunteering was spent sorting volumes of second-hand clothing before being distributed and handed over to its new owners.
Simon Community is a charity dedicated to providing homeless support services and accommodation to the homeless community that has been growing over the last couple of years. The number of persons with out a home increased by 500 in Dublin in 10 months to a total of 2,950 by mid August.
Our roles as volunteers involved taking the winter clothing donations out of plastic bags, steaming them, sorting them and tagging them. Donations included jumpers, jackets, hats, scarves, shoes, pants, dresses and even suits. It was great to see the quality pieces that will help the homeless community. Our team of eight only volunteered one full day, but thanks to our help racks and racks of clothing were taken to their next destination to be distributed to their services or sold in their charity shops.
Over the course of the day, we helped the great in-house team at Dublin Simon and hopefully saved them lots of time as management in the storage facility are beginning to get very busy in the run into the winter months.

In addition to our volunteer day, we also monitor the online social media mentions for the Simon Community to help them understand their online impact and the scale of online conversations connected to homelessness in Dublin. Dublin Simon is providing incredibly important services and we are proud to be able to help them on their mission.
