1. #LayaCitySpec
Laya City Spectacular one of Ireland’s largest summer festivals took place in Merrion Square, Dublin last weekend and will continue in Cork next weekend. The festival showcased the best in international street performances and fun interactive family installations like the ‘Kid’s Court’ and ‘Science Tent’. It also hosted artisan producers, street food from around the world and even a pet wellness area complete with doggy bakery.

2. #UFC200
UFC staged their 200th pay-per-view show at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada last weekend.
The event received a lot of media coverage earlier in the week when Jon Jones failed a drugs tests and had to be removed from the main event.
UFC 200 was headlined by a UFC women’s bantamweight title fight with the champion Miesha Tate facing challenger Amanda Nunes. Nunes was victorious after just 3 minutes 16 seconds of round one.
At UFC 199 in June it was announced that the former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar would be returning to the Octagon. Lesnar fought Mark ‘The Super Samoan’ Hunt and defeated him by unanimous decision.
Two former UFC champions Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar fought for the interim UFC featherweight title and the judges gave the fight to Jose Aldo by a unanimous decision to make him the new UFC interim featherweight champion of the world. Twitter users spotted Aldo rival Conor McGregor watching intently in the crowd.

3. #ECH2016
Ireland had a record 49 athletes competing in the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam last week trying to qualify for the Rio Olympics in August. UCD’s Ciara Mageean became Ireland’s ninth ever Europeans medalist when she won a bronze medal in the 1500m just missing out on silver to Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands.
The Irish men’s 4x400m relay team just missed out on qualifying for the Olympics coming fifth in the European final. Ireland were in 17th position and they needed to get inside the top 16 nations to be invited to Rio.

4. #GIRLSTALKBOYS
Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer’s new song ‘Girls Talk Boys’ from the Ghostbuster’s soundtrack was leaked last week to the anger of the band who vented their frustration on Snapchat. Twitter fans debated whether they should listen to the leaked footage or wait for the official release on July 15th.

5. Joe O’Toole
Joe O’Toole chairman of the commission of water funding resigned last week after intense criticism following an interview he gave to the Irish Examiner in which he said he thought people should pay their water charges.

7. Jupiter
Nasa’s Juno project arrived in Jupiter’s orbit after five years of space travel last week.

Beyonce took over Croke Park last weekend entertaining a crowd of 70,000 fans on her Formation World Tour. Fans took to Twitter to share pictures, videos and admiration for Queen B.

The Ironmind triathlon was held in Belvedere house in Mullingar last Saturday. This beginner’s triathlon event was born from the ‘Ironmind’ documentary that explored the link between mental and physical health which aired on RTE in November. Mental health campaigner and Voice of Ireland judge Niall Breslin organised the event to coincide with the documentary message and promote overall well-being in Ireland.
