What’s trending on Twitter this week in Ireland?

This week several topics are trending on Twitter in Ireland. These include:



3,672 Irish Tweets

Dublin’s Pride 2019 parade took place on Saturday, June 29th. Festivities started at O’Connell Street and ended at a free outdoor event on Merrion Square. People tweeted photos and videos from the event.


#Minsk2019 and #TeamIreland

1,180 Irish Tweets

From June 21st to 30th, the Dinamo Stadium at Minsk, Belarus hosted the Minsk 2019 European Games. This is the second year celebrating the European games, the first year was in 2015 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Fans showed support for Ireland’s athletes on Twitter.



3,687 Irish Tweets

Velo-City 2019 was held in Dublin from June 25th to 28th. The conference focuses on bicycle infrastructure, innovations, and safety. Those in attendance shared content from the event on Twitter.


#LoveIsland; Danny, Yewande & Arabella

Reality TV show Love Island has been a popular topic on social media yet again this past week. Viewers took to Twitter to discuss the shows contestants.


#LeinsterFinal and Croke Park

1,264 and 3817 Irish Tweets

Electric Ireland Leinster GAA Hurling Minor Championship final took place at Croke Park this past weekend. Wexford won the match against Kilkenny. Fans shared their opinions about the match on Twitter.

This coincided with the anniversary of U2’s The Joshua Tree Tour which played at Croker on June 27th, 1987. Fans took to Twitter to reminisce about the concert.

Féile 2019 tournaments were held across Connacht from June 28th to 30th. Fans took to Twitter to show support for the participating teams.

A heatwave hit Europe last week due to a blast of hot air from the Sahara desert. Ireland didn’t feel the extreme of the heatwave but still had a chance to enjoy the warm weather. People shared on Twitter how they were enjoying the weather.

Manchester United fans have been taking to Twitter to share their opinions of the Glazer family. The Glazer’s have had ownership of the premier league club for 16 years and are unpopular amongst fans.



1,338 Irish Tweets 

New Castle United manager, Rafael Benitez, left the club upon the expiration of his contract on June 30th. Rafael has spent three years in charge of St James’ Park. People shared their opinions on Twitter.
